Matches of Grandmasters, Boris Gelfand (at that time world number 9) against David Navara (at that time already among world top twenty) and Vlastimil Hort (the best Czechoslovak chessplayer of the second half of the 20th century) against Jana Jackova, in both rapid and normal chess. Also a lecture and VIP simul of Boris Gelfand, simul of Grandmaster Sergei Movsesian at Kampa square for public. Gelfand book Ten Extraordinary Games was released to mark his visit.

Tenth World Champion Boris Spasskij in the Czech Republic

Grandmaster Boris Spassky held a lecture in Prague. He played a simul against 22 VIP guests and a match against Jana Jackova in Karlovy Vary, where he was awarded annual price of Prague Czech Society and Carlsbad Plaza hotel – Chess Legend Award.
