Thirteen centuries of blindfold chess in Michna palace

[13.06.2013 00:00:00] - We were initiated into the mysteries of blindfold chess games by Michael Negele in afternoon lecture, but watching the second game of the match of David Navara and Hou Yifan required your eyes widely open.

On the board of sixtyfour squares was played Queen's Gambit this time and well-known Carsbad pawn structure predestined the development of the combat in exactly strategic way. David Navara chose the plan of minor attack on the Queen's side, Hou Yifan was carefully parrying the space with the black. The main role played the black knights, which occupied the right defense squares. Little gunflight in the centre of the chessboard ended up into a balanced position, so after the time controle players agreed on draw.

World record of Marce Lang (46 chessboard in blindfold simultaneous, 2011) is commonly known and therefore expert in history of blindfold chess Michael Negele concentrated on much more older achievements in this discipline. Negele says, that ancient Persians and Arabs in 8th century played the blindfold chess, what he proved with several illustrations from manusripts.

Tomorrow third game between Hou Yifan and David Navara brings out GM Vlastimil Hort's quizz on the topic of chess World Champions at 3 p.m.
