[03.06.2013 00:00:00] - The ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2013 will be under the auspices of Mayor of Prague 1, Oldřich Lomecký, who is known as an avid chess and tennis player and deputy mayor of Czech Sokol. Mayor Lomecký, who in the past years played with world champion Viswanathan Anand or with the best woman player in the chess history Judit Polgar will this year play against grandmaster Hou Yifan.
Nineteen-year old Chinese grandmaster Hou Yifan has become world champion in her sixteen and now she is on the second place of women´s chess ranking. Her simul against 30 rivals will be on Sunday June 9th at 3 PM in Gallery 1 (Štěpánská 47, Prague 1). Audience is welcome and the entry is free until the capacity of the hall will be filled.
The Mayor of Prague 1, which hosts the ČEZ CHESS TROPHY annually, sent his greeting to all the participants. „ The modern age is full of blank slogans but „Gens una sumus“ is definitely not one of them. Prague 1 has repeatedly have the possibility to welcome great chess masters, respected theorists of this great game and a lot of fans, who were attracted more than by the game itself, by the love of adventure on sixty-four fields. Almost a week-long program promises not just a thrilling duel between grandmasters Hou Yifan and David Navara, but also a lot of interesting lectures, analyzes and suggestions. At the end, on Friday 14th June, when we will diverge, maybe some of us will leave Prague 1 as better chess-player than before. But I think that everybody will take a bit of the excellent atmosphere which accompanies this festival every year. I wish you pleasant moments over the chessboard and also in life. I´ll be really pleased if Prague one will become your second home.“ Written by Oldřich Lomecký, The Mayor of Prague 1.
