Vernissage with the opening speech of the author Mr. Břetislav Modr
(20th of June 2012 from 3 p.m.)
The philatelist exposition of Břetislav Modr will present two famous chess olympics - Prague 1931 and Buenos Aires 1939. On 40 sheets you will find also one of the most precious chess stamp (the occasional post stamp from the Olympics in Buenos Aires 1939, there exist only 9 known exemplars in the world) or the bulgarian falsification of this stamp, or the letters of the entrants of the Olympics. The correspondance between Luděk Pachman and Jiří Pelikán is extremly interesting. Jiří Pelikán stayed after the Olympionics in 1939 in Argentina and after the war he wanted to return back to Czechoslovakia but finally he changed his mind.
In the part dedicated to the Prague olympics you can find also the photos of the world champions Alexandr Aljechin and Věra Menčíková from the palace U Nováků, falsification of non-existing stamp or lay-out of the stamp for the 90th anniversary of the birth of Věra Menčíková.
