GM Kavalek Lecture

ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2010

About Chess princesses, women's champions and beasts

Lecture by Lubomir Kavalek, Saturday 24. 4., 4 p.m. – Michna Palace
(entrance from Vsehrdova street, through hotel BW Kampa)

“I am a woman, playing a men's game. So I try to balance female emotions with male logic to become the strongest player,” says the eighth woman chess champion Zhu Chen. The Chinese fighter hinted that there is a certain, or considerable, difference between man and woman playing style. What exactly is the difference and at which extent it actually exists is worth of exploring.
So we will look into the past, where the sweet princess was beating her competitors over their heads by a chessboard. We will visit the first woman clubs, looking how their were founded and also closed down. We will talk about the first women, who entered the world of chess and dare to challenge men to chess duels. We will talk about one Czech woman, who caused an international conflict. About women's chess dynasties and about beautiful female champions. We will travel the world, from Japan, through the Rock of Gibraltar and further on over the Atlantic ocean. We will stop in Prague and Budapest. We will find women, who wriggle and dance while playing chess and we will find a chess beast, who made her competitor to play naked. We won't talk about Adam and Eve, but we will talk about Eve, which looked like Adam's Eve while playing chess. We will find cruel women's champions, who don't care whether they play in beautiful dresses or in truck-suits. We will have a peek at the colourful world of women chess world.
