The Chess Train 2016 tournament was dominated by the Turkish GM Suat Atalik, who got 9.5 points out of 10 games, with only the Ukrainian master Roman Chajeckij managing to draw with him in the last round. The second place went to the German translator Sven Römling (8 points) and thanks to the better helping rating, the third place was taken by the Dutch chess player Brent Burg. The team competit... After considering all pros and cons, the Prague Chess Society decided not to go ahead to hold this big event with the Uzbek-American grandmaster, Timur Gareyev.
"We were pleased that we had a chance - during ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2016 festival - to introduce Gareyev to the Czech fans, while he was playing a blindfold simul against twelve opponents. At the same time, however, we realized that our and his ideas about major chess event are significantly different... [all]
[10.06.2016] - The Hungarian grandmaster Richard Rapport yet again surprised with his choice of opening. With his black pieces he chose Alekhine´s defence twice. A surprise move considering that this defence is practically not used at the highest chess level and is considered to be inferior for the player with black pieces. But…. David Navara had white pieces and seemingly (or for real?) he gained an advantage at the opening of the game, however after while it was not clear how he could have progress and to use this advantage. During the first Alekhine´s defence Navara hung by the thread. During the second ... [all]
