CHRISTENING AND SAUSAGES

[13.07.2013 00:00:00] - As the begenning of Christianization of the Czech lands is stated the Baptism of the Czech ruler Bořivoj, which he received, according to the Kristián´s legend, together with his wife on the Velehrad from the Archbishop Methodius, apparently in year of 883. With Baptism on Moravia Bořivoj faced the expansivne attents of the rulers of East Francia and Bavarian Bishops. But already 38 years before Bořivoj, at the assembly in Bavarian Regensburg, under which the Czech territory belonged ecclesiastically, fourteen Czech princes were christened. It is mentioned in Annales Fuldenses in year of 845, but we won´t find there, unfortunately, where it should had happened. There´s a desk on Regensburg´s St. Johan Church, which remembers this christening, and also Wikipedia mentions St. Johan Church as a probable place of the Baptism. On FaceBook page of Chess Train, Ladislav Jahoda pointed out that and also attached photos of Memorial Plaque.
The second possible place of Christening – according to the data warehouses and church history expert Jan Spousta – is ducal residence, where old Romanesque hall is preserved until nowadays (but after rebuilding from year 1212). First stage city of Chess Train 2013 is not attractive only for spiritual experiences. One of the highlights is definitely going to be a historical sausage house – Historic Sausage Kitchen. You cannot be in Regensburg and do not taste their legendary sausages.

Fourteen Czech princes were supposed to be christened in St. Johan Church in Regensburg. The year 845 is sure, the place is not.

Trilingual sign on the church is commemorating that.

The other possible place of the Christening is the great hall of Ducal palace

And 38 years later, the Baptism of Czech ruler Bořivoj looked like this. The illustration comes from Velislav´s Bible, apparently the first world comic book.
