SIGHTS AND LANDMARKS OF DRESDEN

Dresden use to be called Florence on the Elbe thanks to beautiful baroque buildings that couldn´t had been found at any other places around Germany. A big part of the city, including the historical centre, was destroyed during the Second World War bombing in 1945. However, the Dresden patriots worked hard on the city and today we can admire the renovated majestic palaces and churches again and enjoy the characteristic panorama of a saxon metropolis.

For tourists the most famous place in Dresden is the palace Zwinger that serves as orangery, exhibition gallery and festival arena. It is the famous museum complex that contains Old Masters Picture Gallery. For the lovers of Opera this town offers one of the most important opera stage in the whole Germany – the Semperoper. And the chess players surely know that there was a Chess Olympics in Dresden 4 years ago.
