CHESS TRAIN

SIGHTS AND LANDMARKS OF PIESTANY

This small spa town in Slovakia with rich chess tradition celebrates its hundred anniversary and 90 years since two important international chess tournaments this year. In 1912 Akiba Rubinstein won (Oldřich Duras was 4th) and in 1922 Jefim Bogoljubov beated Alexandr Aljechin here.

The spa sources of Piešťany and especially the mud baths are very popular. The mineral waters were described already in 1549 in the book „De admirandis Hungariae aquis hypomnemation“ from Georgio Wernher.
