ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2011

Exhibition of chess philately - Famous chess players and diagrams on postage stamps

12th – 19th June 2011 – Michna Palace
(Prague 1 – Kampa, Entrance from Vsehrdova street)

Thematic exhibition of Famous chess players and diagrams on postmarks prepared for chess festival ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2011 philatelist Karel Slechta.

Karel Slechta (70 years) is one of the most important Czech philatelists. He has been collecting chess stamps, postage stamps and postcards since 1963. The stamps he has been collected since he was a small boy, first he focused on Switzerland, but when he faced with chess player Milan Seifert from Podebrady on the stock exchange „U Nováku“, he learned that there are also chess themes in philately and he began to collect them intensively. Another important pulse for him was a meeting with Frantisek Paroulek from Podebrady, a father of chess philately in Czechoslovakia.

Chess collection of Karel Slechta includes stamps with chess motives from various countries, states and territories, some are not even recognized as independent states and they are only autonomous regions (such as Chechnya, Dagestan, Sakhalin, Palestine) or almost uninhabited areas (Staffa and Einhallow inslands).
From the collector's point of view, Karel Slechta considers as interesting and occasional stamps those, which were issued to various events in the global and regional chess. And also special "R" labels on registered letters.
The occasional postmark and special "R" label will be issued on the occasion of the chess festival ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2011. First two days of the festival (12th and 13th June) will be directly in Michna Palace an occasional post office counter, where you can get an occasional chess stamp on your correspondence and a special "R" label on a registered letter.
