The most beautiful studies and problems of Mario Matouš, the best Czech chess composer of the 20th century, and bizarre chess stories of Pavel Houser connected by illustrations of Kristina Peřichová into one splendid book. The book was published also in limited numbered edition (100 copies), bound in imitation leather with an embossed diagram, paper cover and sewn ribbon bookmark. On 240 pages you will found 45 studies and problems, 22 stories and 36 illustrations. The book is supplemented by biographies of both of the authors and several yet non-published photos. The book was published by Prague chess society in 2014.

[21.11.2017] - Ethologically, we can divide devotees of the royal game of chess to two types. The first are “chess nerds”. Those players are not bothered where and with which chess pieces they play, how their opponent is dress or whether he smells nice. Chess is sheer abstraction to them. They only care about e4 - e5, Jf3 - Jf6, Jxe5 - d6...and nothing else.

The second are “chess players”. They dress nice for the game, they not happy, if their opponent smells bad, they prefer old fashion wooden chess pieces of one set to dirty plastic set “scraped out of somewhere”. They do not like to play on ... [all]

[20.10.2017] - The seventh year of the Chess Train was blessed with good fortune – splendid weather every day (nothing but sun), no conflicts aboard of the train apart chessboard fights, beautiful cities and pleasant bars and above all, fantastic people all around.

Well-deserved winner of the Chess Train Tournament 2017 became IM Roman Khaetsky, who gained 7,5 points in nine rounds. Having gained 0,5 point less, Thomas Hoepfl and Oleg Maximov had second and third places. On Its Way for the Seventh Time

[14.10.2017] - Already the seventh Chess Train tournament is taking place on 13 October. During the five-day tournament, chessplayers will travel on route Prague - Olomouc – Trenčín – Bratislava – Lednice –Prague.

The unique worldwide project held by Prague Chess Society and České dráhy (Czech Railways), which connects rail travel with an international chess tournament, is tempting chess players from all over the world to visit Prague. This year 84 players form 16 different countries decided to participate.

[27.07.2017] - The collection of banknotes and coins with chess theme, which is being built by Brno based businessman and chess patron, Vlastimil Chládek, and which will be exhibited for the first time in the Czech National Bank during the course of the Chess Bank Festival, so far consists of one banknote and several tens of coins. If you are aware of a coin or a note, which is not listed below, please let us know by email ( and you will receive a reward. We are interested only in actual money, not in memorial medals or other souvenirs.

The world champion wins in Prague

[20.06.2017] - The world rapid chess champion, Vassily Ivanchuk, won the twelve-game match in rapid chess against the best Czech chess player, David Navara. The Ukrainian grandmaster won 7,5:4,5 proving to be more experienced in practical skills. Even though the Czech representative managed more often to get a favourable position, Ivanchuk was better in managing the time and using his strengths; hence he was able to get through worse positions and score from better positions. Navara won one game, lost four and seven games were even.

World Champion is in Prague

[14.06.2017] - The World Champion in rapid chess Vassily Ivanchuk has arrived to Prague today. He will play the match of 12 rapid chess games against the best Czech chessplayer David Navara.

They will play in Michna Palace in Prague. The first game will start on June 15th at 16:00 and there will be online transmission of it. Every day they will play 4 games.
