The exhibition about Schnirch and his chessmen accompanies the match of Grandmasters

[15.06.2018 00:00:00] - Bohuslav Schnirch, together with Josef Vaclav Myslbek, was the most significant Czech sculptor of the 19th century. For chess players, however, he is the first chairman of the Czech Chess Association and the author of the chessmen that are still used until these days. You can visit the exhibiton called „Sculptor Schnirch and the Czech club chessmen“ at the festival ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2018 at the Michna Palace in Prague on Kampa.

The chess table from 19th century, on which Bohuslav Schnirch played chess and who was kindly lent by Schnirch's heirs, represents an extraordinary artifact of the exhibition. In addition, you will see a number of modifications of the pieces so called Česká klubovka (Czech Club chessmen) from the collection of Petr Král.

In the other rooms of the Baroque Michna Palace you can look forward to a more up-to-date chess. The match of David Navarre and Pentala Harikrishna is coming in 3 : 3 in the second half. Come and see how the match will develop on Friday and who will be happy on Saturday for the trophy for the winner.


Exhibition “Sculptor Bohuslav Schnirch and Czech Club chessmen” is part of the ČEZ CHESS TROPHY 2018 festival at the Michna palace.


The exhibition was also visited by the legendary Czech Grandmaster Vlastimil Hort and Pilsen Master and businessman Jan Michálek.
