Bank Chess Festival

Let´s play in the palace of central bankers

[21.11.2017 00:00:00] - Ethologically, we can divide devotees of the royal game of chess to two types. The first are “chess nerds”. Those players are not bothered where and with which chess pieces they play, how their opponent is dress or whether he smells nice. Chess is sheer abstraction to them. They only care about e4 - e5, Jf3 - Jf6, Jxe5 - d6...and nothing else.

The second are “chess players”. They dress nice for the game, they not happy, if their opponent smells bad, they prefer old fashion wooden chess pieces of one set to dirty plastic set “scraped out of somewhere”. They do not like to play on wobbly, small table sticky with spilled lemonade, placed somewhere in a foul, dark cellar. Simply they care about the surrounding in which they play. Surrounding defined not only by the actual room and the building, but also by a table, chess set, and their opponent is important for them, and it represents a vital element of the actual game.

If you belong to the second group, then Bank Chess Festival is just the thing for you. Let´s joint us and take part on some of the tournaments, which will be taking place in the beautiful halls of the Commodity Exchange and Schebek Palace, places closely linked to history of the Czech National Bank.

On Thursday 30 November since 3 p.m. you can play blitz tournament (3 min + 2 sec per move), since Friday till Saturday 1 – 3 November in mornings you can play Fischer chess tournament (15 min + 5 sec per move), while in the afternoons you can play rapid chess (15 min + 5 sec per move). You can also sign up to play a simul with the best Czech chess player David Navara (Wednesday 29 November since 3 p.m.). Detailed information about the Bank Chess Festival can be found here.

You can register via e-mail (bankovni.festival@gmail.com).

And that´s what the halls, in which the games will be taking place, look.
