[15.10.2015 00:00:00] - A group of Swedish chess players dominated the Chess Train 2015. The cold weather that accompanied this year’s chess playing on the railways of Central Europe apparently suited the Scandinavians more than other participants.
The winner of the tournament was the Swedish GM Lars Karlsson, the Swedish chess player Kare Gillstring achieved the best performance over his rating, and the Swedish team along with one American also won the team competition.
The Philippine GM Julio Sadorra came second in the individual competition; the German GM Raj Tischbierek came third. The best Czech chess player was Jaroslav Satranský, ranking in the 15th place.
Jiří Ješeta, the director of the Department of Passenger Transport Sales of the Czech Railways, is awarding the Chess Train tournament champion GM Lars Karlsson a glass locomotive trophy.
The legendary grandmaster Vlastimil Hort is giving a Chess Train jacket to the Philippine GM Julio Sadorra, who came second.
The CEO of the Railway Research Institute Antonín Blažek is awarding GM Raj Tischbierek a set of Bohemian crystal glasses and a carafe for his third place in the tournament.
The president of the Prague Chess Society Pavel Matocha awarded Kare Gillstring, the best performer over his rating, a pair of downhill skis Sporten Glider 5.
You can view the photographic reportage from the journey of the Chess Train 2015 here. The final results can be found here.
With no parallel in history, the Chess Train is a unique project of the Prague Chess Society and the Czech Railways.
