Snowdrops and Oldhands 2013

Glorious grandmasters are coming to Podebrady

[30.10.2013 00:00:00] - After winning of Soviet Union championship in 70´s grandmaster Boris Gulko chose not to emigrate, as Viktor Korčnoj, Genna Sosonko or Igor Ivanov, but he officially asked for permission to move out of the country. That caused seven years of bans on participating in chess tournaments and conflicts with Soviet police, demonstrations, hunger-strikes and short-term detention. When he was finally allowed to go behind the Iron Curtain, he moved to the USA, where he also won national championship. The brave Boris Gulko became the only chess player in the world to win both of the USA and USSR national championship.

In the end of November, he will visit the Czech Republic for match called Snowdrops and Oldhands. Together with Boris Ivkov (he will celebrate his 80th birthday in November), Wolfgang Uhlmann (last year he played the most beautiful game of the match Snowdrops and Oldhands 2012) and Iossif Dorfman (baby of the family in his 61 years) they will form the Oldhands team.

Four Snowdrops to fight the legendary players in two round scheveningen match will be Alina Kashlinskaya, Mariya Muzychuk, Viktorija Cmilyte and Anastasia Ziaziulkina.

All the names of guests can be found on Friday in new issue of the Sachovy tydenik (Chess Weekly). If you ´d like to receive this weekly magazine to your e-mail address for free, you just need to fill the registration here.
