[24.06.2012 00:00:00] - The chess festival CEZ CHESS TROPHY 2012 is not only the match between two top players. There are also simuls, interesting lectures and philately exposition of Chess Olimpics in Prague 1931 and Buenos Aires 1939.
Grandmaster Jan Markos overcrowded the hall with his excellent lecture. He taught and showed how effectively use chess programs, where we can trust them and where contrary the chess engines do not understand the chess position at all. Simirarly great was the lecture given by Yochanan Afek, who told about rook endings.
Then at four o´clock in the afternoon on June 21st Peter Svidler and David Navara sat behind the board. The Russian grandmaster led white pieces and in less frequented variation of Spanish he had a better sense of the position than the Czech representative. Grandmaster Navara got gradually into a very difficult position (after the game grandmaster Svidler marked as a bad move 24...Se6). The game went into the rook ending, where Svidler had one pawn more. He transformed his advantage to the whole point.
In the 3rd game David Navara choose the antigrünfeld variation, but Peter Svidler came with a interesting novelty (12…e5). The game was really exciting with attacks against kings on opposite wings. The plan of grandmaster Navara (Qh3 and 0-0-0) was dubious and black managed the game better and finally won with nice suffocation mate.
Game can be replayed here.
Photogallery is available here.
Grandmaster Svidler is winning 2,5 : 0,5 and tha last game starts today at 16:00. You can follow the online transmission here.
